More than a million dollars approved for youth programming in Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio — More than $1.3 million dollars is headed for youth recreation, job and mentorship programs in Toledo as part of funding from the American Rescue Plan Act.

Dr. Tracee Perryman has dedicated her life to educating youth in underserved communities by working through the Elevate Program at Center of Hope Family Services.

Local organization aiming to aid minorities with mental health issues

The coronavirus hit minority groups harder than people expected.

NBC 24 spoke with the leader of the 'Mask Up Toledo' project who started a new initiative this month. 

That new campaign is called, Be Well Toledo: Struggle No More. And it's coming from The Center of Hope with a focus on a frame work of mental well-being.

Research shows two in five Americans have reported struggles with mental health since the coronavirus pandemic began.

That has prompted local wellness officials to let northwest Ohioans know that help is available, and that they should not be reluctant to seek it.

Local recording artist creates PSA to encourage Toledo to 'Mask Up' | Your Day

Inspired by the personal stories of those impacted by COVID-19, Dr. Tracee Perryman with Center of Hope Family Services used her skills as a recording artist and gathered community members to put together a PSA with a simple ask - mask up, Toledo.

The Mask Up Project encourages everyone to wear a mask and think about not only yourself, but the people around you, especially in communities that are at a higher risk of getting COVID-19.

Non-profit creates 'Toledo Mask Up' PSA to raise COVID-19 safety awareness

The COVID-19 pandemic is hitting urban and minority populations hard, so a non-profit organization in Toledo is hoping to be a part of the solution in Lucas County. 

Songwriter, recording artist and CEO of the Center of Hope Family Services Inc., Dr. Tracee Perryman, penned a song to encourage mask-wearing and social distancing in urban communities and inner-city areas.
