The Achievement Project - SES Title I Tutoring

Image goes here.

CHFS provides supplemental education services to students in Title I schools that have been in school improvement status for two years or more. CHFS provides tutoring services to these students in alignment with the Ohio Department of Education content standards, and uses culturally responsive, strengths based, and evidence informed practices to prepare students to meet the reading and language arts Ohio Department of Education Performance Standards at their appropriate grade level.

 Services Provided:

Tutors will consult with qualifying K-12 student participants in the areas of reading and language arts (please see detailed discussion on curriculum and methods below).

 Tutor Qualifications:

75 percent of tutors have a Master’s degree or better from an accredited university. 50 percent of tutors have an earned doctorate degree from an accredited university. One tutor has a Ph.D. in writing and literacy studies, and currently directs a college-level writing program at a nationally ranked top 100 public university institution.

Curriculum and Methods:

The curriculum is designed to assess students’ competencies with the Ohio Department of Education Performance Standards for grades K-12. Using a hands-on culturally relevant approach, the curriculum encourages students to draw on personal experiences and relate these experiences to statewide literacy standards and expectations. The curriculum includes an initial pretest, designed to determine students’ grade level performances. Tutors then work with students corresponding to the appropriate grade level, and self-design learning tutorials that assist students in demonstrating competency with their appropriate grade level in reading and language arts. Once students complete instruction in the appropriate tutorials, students are administered a posttest evaluation that is consistent with the Ohio Department of Education Performance Standards. At the conclusion of the program, a detailed evaluation letter is sent home to the parents of each participant in the program. A formal assessment progress report outlining the progress of all the students who participated in the program is then disseminated to appropriate school system representatives. Programmatic assessment is conducted on an annual basis.
