DENISE — a married woman entered our transitional program in the single women’s dorm while her husband was in the hospital rehabilitating from a stroke. She worked at a Boy’s Home while also attending classes at Riverside Community College, majoring in computer science. Denise was determined to reach her goals with not only her work and studies, but also to complete our program successfully. Using our savings account guidelines, she saved enough money to purchase a home with her husband upon his recovery in November 2004.
JACKIE — a single mom with her son entered into the transitional program in March. She was searching for a job and receiving assistance from the Gain Program. Our case manager assisted Jackie with job leads, child care providers, and helped her apply for Section 8 Housing. Jackie also attended classes such as anger management and parenting skills provided here at the shelter. Jackie was very determined to meet the goals and was able to save money by using our savings program guide lines. Upon completion of our program, Jackie received her Section 8 housing voucher, and using her program fees they moved into their own apartment on November 22, 2004.
KATHY — a single woman, entered into the transitional program in April. She was working as a local bus driver here in Corona. She was very determined to meet her goals and start a new life. She was able to save money while using our savings program guidelines and bought herself a wonderful used car. The remaining money she has saved went for a down payment on her own mobile home, where she is able to bond with her grown son and granddaughter. She successfully completed our program and moved in December.
